"Comprehensive Safety Analysis 2010: A New Federal DOT Program Starts – Are You Prepared?"

This is a new initiative by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to improve overall road safety. This program does not make significant changes to the FMCSA Regulations but how the data that is collected during road-side and on-site inspections is used.

Under the old system only the out-of-service violations written during a road-side inspection hurt the company. But now all violations will be taken into account.

The new system has 7 distinct rated areas where the old system only had 4 rating areas. Based on this new system the FMCSA will now issue ratings based on data collected during road-side inspections that will give the company one of 3 ratings: Deficient, marginal or continue to operate. If a company displays an unsafe history in an area, the FMCSA will take an early intervention which may include: a warning letter, a formal site visit to address problems areas, a detailed audit of the company.

This system is also designed to hold the drivers responsible for their actions by creating a driver profile with the FMCSA and the same intervention steps can be taken for the driver as noted above for the company.

This session will help the participant understand the new system and what steps the company AND the company drivers must take to protect themselves.
