2010 SBMA Summer Conference Draws 250 Attendees!

SBMA’s Summer Conference brought together dealers, suppliers and their families from across our 4 states for several days of learning, relaxation and fun.  The atmosphere was very positive!  Attendees gathered new information to help them continue to work forward in the difficult economic times of today. They found products and services at the exhibits along with new vendors. They also gathered a lot of information from each other.

SBMA is very blessed to have so many people willing to help make this event so special and we want to thank them all. If you haven’t joined us please take a moment to add the dates of July 28-July 31, 2011 to your calendar.

Be sure to also thank Todd Merriss, our outgoing Chairman from Dixie Lumber Company in Easley, South Carolina, for all the work he did during the past year. Mike Christian, Massey Building Supply in Richmond, Virginia, took over the reins and he will be looking for your support and input this year.

That must have been one mean storm!!

Thank You to helpers: Susie Van Landingham (l), Jesse Martin (m), and Maria Walker (r)!

Future SBMA Members!!

For the first time Tom Hartley, Cindys' husband, missed an SBMA Annual Conference.

Attendees decided to let him know he was missed!

SBMA's 2009 Summer Conference Follow-up

Close to 300 people attended SBMA’s Summer Conference in Virginia Beach July 31- August 2.  The upbeat atmosphere was contagious. The exhibits were great.  The seminars were timely and on target.  A good time was had by all.  We thank everyone who helped make the event such a success…see you next year July 30 – August 1, 2010.

Friday was “sports” day.  We had golf, tennis and fishing.  Others chose to enjoy the beach, hospitality room and each other.  Friday evening brought a cocktail party and exhibits while the children had their own parties.

Saturday morning opened with exhibits and breakfast. Seminars followed with Ed Seifried, our favorite economist, bringing everyone up to date.  Things are looking good…Ed feels the recession had bottomed out.  Craig Webb, ProSales Editor, presented “ 5 Ways Your Company Will Change with the Housing Recovery” and Chuck Miller, Miller Custom Homes, told everyone “What a Green Contractor Needs from His Supplier.”

A Sock Hop, dinner and gambling closed the weekend on Saturday evening.   We welcomed our new board members and thanked the outgoing ones for all their service.

A special thank you to all our sponsors

And SBMA has some associate members who have gone the extra mile to be sure that the events this year are what you have come to expect! We want to thank

● Cox Industries for sponsoring the Welcoming Reception

● Arndt & Herman/ECMD for sponsoring the Exhibit Breakfast

● Federated Insurance for sponsoring the President’s Reception

● Crumpler Plastic Pipe for helping to sponsor the President’s Dinner

SBMA's 2008 Summer Conference Follow-up

Another GREAT SBMA Summer Meeting!

The Southern Building Material Association held its annual Summer Conference July 31- August 3 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.  Approximately 325 people attended, 90 were children.

Buford Arning, ECMD, not only sponsored the breakfast Saturday morning, but once again, brought 200 ears of corn for dinner Thursday night – and he and his family shucked it for us.  Buford also brought tomatoes for Thursday night.

Friday brought a morning of sports or just enjoying the hospitality room and each other.  We had our annual golf tournament, tennis, Sea fishing trip and our sandcastle building tournament.  That evening adults enjoyed cocktails while looking at the exhibits (43 in all).  The children had their own parties – Veggie Tales for the younger crowd and the older ones had a Build-a-Bike - Battle of the Tricycles.

Saturday evening brought the closing events with a reception, dinner, dancing and a casino night for the adults. The younger children built a bear while the older ones had a Wii party & Dance Dance Revolution.

We welcomed our new board members and thanked the outgoing ones for all their service.
